IRS Issues Relief to Hurricane Irma Victims in Georgia
posted: Thursday, September 21st
Extensions Granted for Quarterly Estimated Tax Payments & More
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced extensions to certain tax filing and payment deadlines for Hurricane Irma victims in the entire state of Georgia. The relief includes, among other things, extensions until January 31, 2018 for:
- Quarterly estimated tax payments originally due on September 15, 2017 and January 16, 2018;
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns due on October 31, 2017; and
- Businesses whose 2016 extensions ran out on September 15, 2017.
The IRS is also waiving late-deposit penalties for federal payroll and excise tax deposits for Georgia hurricane victims. In addition, businesses that suffered uninsured or unreimbursed disaster-related losses can claim them on either the return for the year the loss occurred (in this instance, the 2017 return normally filed next year), or the return for the prior year (2016).
