Arkansas Amends Social Media Privacy Law

Law Effective July 31, 2017
A new law in Arkansas amends the state's social media privacy law, easing certain restrictions on employers.
Background
Under current law, an employer is prohibited from requiring, requesting, suggesting, or causing a current or prospective employee to:
- Disclose his or her username and password to the current or prospective employee's social media account;
- Change the privacy settings associated with his or her social media account; or
- Add an employee, supervisor, or administrator to the list or contacts associated with his or her social media account.
New Law
Effective July 31, 2017, Arkansas law is amended to prohibit an employer only from requiring a current or prospective employee to add another employee, supervisor, or administrator to the list or contacts associated with his or her social media account.
