Change Aligns City Law with State Law
San Francisco has amended its "Ban the Box" law to prohibit employers with 5 or more employees from inquiring about, discussing, or requiring disclosure of an applicant's conviction history until after a conditional offer of employment.
This amendment, effective October 1, 2018, will align the city's law with California's "Ban the Box" law.
However, until October 1, 2018, San Francisco continues to prohibit employers with 20 or more employees from inquiring about, discussing, or requiring disclosure of an applicant's conviction history until after the first live interview (whether conducted in person or by phone or videoconference) or a conditional offer of employment is made.
